Knowland Survey Finds Majority of Hoteliers Experienced Growth in 2010, Expect More in 2011

Measuring energy consumption, the carbon footprint and providing sustainable investment possibilities are the key components of an E-toolkit which could have a path-breaking impact on the tourism sector, helping hotels reduce their carbon footprint while increasing business profits. The Hotel Energy Solutions (HES) E-toolkit will be presented at the second annual HES Conference, ‘An Innovative Energy Toolkit for Hotels’ during the International Tourism trade fair FITUR 2011 (Madrid, Spain, 20 January 2011).

In year-over-year measurements, the Asia/Pacific region’s occupancy rose 2.8 percent to 70.0 percent, average daily rate increased 12.0 percent to US$142.47, and revenue per available room jumped 15.2 percent to US$99.70.

The region’s occupancy rose 8.8 percent to 53.9 percent, average daily rate went up 2.7 percent to US$98.80, and revenue per available room increased 11.7 percent to US$53.30.

In year-over-year measurements, the industry’s occupancy was up 9.0 percent to 53.3 percent. Average daily rate ended the month with a 2.5-percent increase to US$96.70. Revenue per available room for the month rose 11.8 percent to finish at US$51.54.

In year-to-date October 2010 results, Shanghai reported revenue per available room of CNY579, compared to Beijing’s RevPAR (CNY604) in year-to-date October 2008 results.
