The Baird/STR Hotel Stock Index outperformed the S&P 500 and the MSCI REIT (RMZ) in January, which increased 4.4 percent and 6.3 percent, respectively.
Total hotel property transactions in 2011 amounted to US$14.0 billion, compared to $8.6 billion in 2010, according to data from STR Analytics. This is a 62.8-percent increase over 2010.
Overall, the U.S. hotel industrys occupancy rose 4.4 percent to 60.1 percent, its average daily rate was up 3.7 percent to US$101.64 and its revenue per available room increased 8.2 percent to US$61.06.
