Besieged Australian and New Zealand Hotel Industry Meets To Discuss Crisis |

Against a backdrop of falling international visitor arrivals, worldwide fears of SARSand continuing concerns over the impact of the Iraq war and international terrorism,Australia & New Zealand’s hotel industry leaders will meet in Sydney in June 2003 todiscuss the future of the industry. |
ANZHIC 2003 (Australia and New Zealand Hotel Investment Conference) will be heldon 11 June at the Westin Sydney. The Conference is jointly convened and hostedeach year by real estate investment bank, Sonnenblick-Goldman, hotel consultants,Horwath Asia Pacific and lawyers, Blake Dawson Waldron. This year’s Conference issponsored by the InterContinental Hotels Group, Interval International, MedinaServiced Apartments, The Westin Sydney, and Westpac Institutional Bank. Thesupporting sponsors are Hotel Asia Pacific magazine, the International Society ofHospitality Consultants, and TTF Australia.
Following from last year’s Conference focus on 11 September and Ansett collapseimpacts, this year’s event will assess the fall-out and damage control measuresarising from the latest industry problems, as well as the potential opportunities thatwill emerge once the current problems are resolved.
Industry experts from Australia, New Zealand, South East Asia and the USA will
provide in-depth insight into:
* recent and prospective revenues, profits and trends (including feature sessions
on the airline industry, Queensland resorts and future new hotel supply)
* state of the hotel investment markets and outlook
* who is investing in hotels and on what terms (including a feature session on
timeshare projects)
* Australia and New Zealand’s standing amongst leading Asian markets
* who is financing hotels and on what terms
* investor and lender sentiment (via Sonnenblick-Goldman’s latest Survey data)
* capital expenditure needs in hotels, and
* key predictions for 2003/04
A session sure to create some lively discussion is a debate on the relative merits ofhotels and serviced apartments - from the viewpoints of both guests and investors.Over 250 delegates attended the sell-out ANZHIC 2002 Conference, and an evenlarger number is expected for ANZHIC 2003.
