Misnamed Extended Stay,

The so called Extended Stay product is a total misfit.
The major draw for these hotels is to have larger room, small kitchenette, and free breakfast.
This product is perfectly adapted for a shorter term clientele that wants to get away from the typical hospitality industry:
- They enjoy being able to do their shopping and keep their favorite products in the mini-fridge, its cheaper, you know what you eat, and you can eat it whenever you want.
- They enjoy the extra space that allows them to meet business contacts, or mingle with family and friends.
- They appreciate the savings since most hotels provide free breakfast, free internet and other amenities (telephone, gym, pool) that upscale hotels are overcharging for.
It is regrettable that the industry keeps on denying the reality of the changes happening in our guest expectations.

Extended-Stay Hotel

I agree that travelers (short and long-term stays) truly enjoy the extra size and amenities offered in residential style accomodations. In response, a growing number of traditional hotels are offering mini-refrigerators and microwave ovens in their rooms.

For owners and operators of extended-stay hotels, the length of stay does have an impact on profitability. That is why the prefer to have a high percentage of truly long-term stays in their properties.
