  • InterContinental Second Largest Holiday Inn in the Hemisphere and 24th Holiday Inn Property in Latin America Opens Doors

The hotel, the 24th Holiday Inn property for IHG in Latin America, is located in the northern part of Sao Paulo. It is IHG's largest property in Latin America, and the fifth largest Holiday Inn hotel in the world. The property is located directly adjacent to the Anhembi Exhibition Center, Latin America's largest meetings and convention facility.

"The opening of this property is a major component of our expansion strategy in Latin America," says Alvaro Diago, Area President Latin America, InterContinental Hotels Group. "A management agreement of a property of this magnitude is positive on many levels, as it provides a hub from which we will be able to secure additional management or franchise opportunities for our other brands throughout the region."

Dubbed a 'modern wonder,' Parque Anhembi has become one of the world's premiere meeting and convention facilities. A visionary local entrepreneur, Caio Machado, conceptualized a master plan and originally built the facility 30 years ago.

The hotel's developer, Construtora San Jose, one of Brazil's most recognized builders, reached back into history by retaining Mr. Machado and his company, Alcantara Machado Ferias de Negocios, Ltd., to manage the new convention center.

The new property, along with a new, state-of-the-art one-million square foot convention center currently under construction, along with a 1,500-space parking garage, are all part of a massive expansion of Parque Anhembi, complementing the existing 581,000 square foot Anhembi Exhibition Center, an existing 3,400-person theater, 15,000 parking spaces and the 60,000 person Sao Paulo Carnival Stadium.

"The epicenter of a major meetings and convention facility needs to be a hotel," continues Diago, "a component that until now has not been a part of Anhembi. The property was the missing link to the future of this massive enterprise."

The full-service Holiday Inn Parque Anhembi includes two restaurants, food court, lobby bar, fitness center with swimming pool, business center, state-of-the-art in-room technology, and a retail sector in the hotel.

"The story of Parque Anhembi is a remarkable one," concludes Diago. "Mr. Machado conceived a dream 30 years ago that has now, through his efforts and the expertise of Construtora Sao Jose, been made into a reality."
