Pegasus Shopping Engine Hits Milestone after Implementation by Numerous Hotel Chains

This activity confirms the applicability of Pegasus’ engine, which shields hotel reservation systems from the exponential increase in availability inquiries being generated by GDSs and leading online travel portals. The RAVE shopping engine (RAVE = Rate and Availability Engine) was developed to alleviate the stress experienced by hotel central reservation systems (CRSs), brought about by the advent of Next Generation Seamless and the shopping practices of Internet-based distribution channels. The RAVE engine went live on November 24, 2003, when hotels represented by the Utell by Pegasus™ service became the first hotel “chain” to have Next Generation Seamless availability inquiries fulfilled by the RAVE engine. Since then, Pegasus has successfully implemented the RAVE engine for many additional customers, including Preferred Hotels and Resorts, Summit Hotels and Resorts, Sterling Hotels and Resorts, Golden Tulip Hotels, Top International, ANA Hotels, Camino Real, Charming Hotels, Jurys Doyle, Marco Polo, Meritus, Registry Hotels, Taj Hotels, Warwick International, Prince Hotels and Leading Hotels of the World.

Travel agents and consumers, both online and off, frequently shop multiple hotel booking options by browsing through hotels according to availability. This activity causes the Web site or GDS to ‘hit’ the hotel CRSs again and again, which stretches and pushes the CRSs’ capacity to respond. The RAVE shopping engine enables Pegasus’ CRS customers to manage their activity by directing shopping inquiries to the RAVE engine instead of hitting the CRS each time.

Moving forward, Pegasus is progressing projects that will increase the number of hotel chains subscribing to the RAVE engine and also increase the number of electronic distribution channels having their multi-property availability inquiries serviced by the RAVE engine.
