  • Cendant Irwin Prince, president and chief operating officer of Days Inns-Canada, has received the chain\'s first \'Sunsational Leadership\' award.

Prince, who is president and chief operating officer of Realstar Hospitality, master franchisor of the Days Inn brand in Canada, received the award at the chain’s 35th anniversary conference in Florida last month for his outstanding contributions to the brand over the last decade.

Joe Kane, Days Inns Worldwide president, called Prince a “great role model” for the industry, adding, “Irwin embodies the word hospitality and exemplifies the soul of the Days Inn brand.

“He is a great role model for anyone developing hotels internationally or domestically for that matter. His attention to detail is a great example of how to successfully run a hotel company.”

Kane described the key traits that he said comprise the “soul of the brand” and underscored Prince’s “sunsational” service commitment:

“As we embrace change and move the brand forward, there are four guiding principles that will help us stay true to the soul of the brand and deliver guest value for price paid. Treat guests like family; treat your property like home; communicate; and operate your hotel the way you expect other Days Inn properties to operate.

“Irwin consistently practices these traits and as a result, has done an incredible job developing a superior image for Days Inns Worldwide in Canada.”

Realstar Hospitality acquired the rights to franchise the Days Inn brand in Canada in 1992, when it represented 18 properties throughout Canada. Since that time, Days Inns-Canada has grown to 80 open independently owned and operated hotels.

Prince has served the Days Inn Franchise Advisory Board as its international representative for 10 years. In that role, he acts as a sounding board and voice for the Days Inn franchisee community on key brand issues and initiatives. Prince also serves on the Hotel Association of Canada board of directors.

Prince received a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Toronto.

Days Inns Worldwide Inc., a subsidiary of Cendant Corporation (NYSE: CD), franchises hotels in the United States, Argentina, Canada, China, Egypt, India, Jordan, Mexico, Philippines, South Africa, United Kingdom, Uruguay and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.
