  • AH&LA Members of the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA) can pre-authenticate for .travel, a new top level domain and the only custom-made search engine for the travel and tourism industry.

This industry-sponsored and industry-restricted domain offers AH&LA members enhanced access between consumers and suppliers, and more.

Only legitimate travel organizations will be allowed to use the .travel domain name, ensuring those names are seen as a more secure place to do business on the Internet and virtually reduce problems such as trademark infringement and cyber squatting. In addition, a .travel name registration also provides for a listing in the industry-exclusive directory of travel products and services. The .travel directory provides AH&LA members, as well as consumers, with a precision search tool that is designed to drive traffic to their business.

'This new one-of-a-kind domain is a powerful marketing tool and will provide AH&LA members with the opportunity to expand their outreach and to capitalize on the power of the Internet as a sales tool,' said AH&LA President and CEO Joseph A. McInerney, CHA.

The pre-authentication and pre-registration period is through August 26. For more information on '.travel,' visit www.ahla.com/travel_info.asp or contact Mike Chmura, vice president of new business development, at mchmura@ei-ahla.org or (407) 999-8106.

AH&LA is a 95-year-old dual membership association of state and city partner lodging associations throughout the United States with some 10,000 property members nationwide, representing more than 1.4 million guest rooms. Headquartered in Washington, D.C., it provides members with advocacy on Capitol Hill, public relations and image management, education, research and information, and other services to ensure a positive business climate for the U.S. lodging industry. Individual state associations provide representation at the state level and offer many additional cost-saving benefits.
