ALIS Award Finalists Announced

  • AH&LA Winners of the Americas Lodging Investment Summit (ALIS) Awards for 2005 will be announced January 24, 2006, at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Los Angeles, Calif.

    ALIS is Co-hosted by the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA) and Burba Hotel Network (BHN). The ALIS awards are presented for outstanding performance in four categories: Jack A. Shaffer Financial Advisor, Merger & Acquisition, Single Asset Transaction, and Development of the Year.

    The following is a list of finalists for each category:

    Jack A. Shaffer Financial Advisor

    Mark Elliott, senior managing director, Hodges Ward Elliott
    Mike Graziano, managing director, Goldman, Sachs & Company
    Lonny Henry, senior managing director, Bear, Stearns & Co., Inc.

    Merger & Acquisition

    • The Blackstone Group acquires Wyndham International for $3.24 billion
    • Colony Capital acquires Raffles Holdings for $1.01 billion
    • MGM Mirage acquires Mandalay Resort Group for $7.9 billion

    Single Asset Transaction

    • Thor Equities purchase of the 1,639-room Palmer House Hilton in downtown Chicago for $240 million (approximately $146,000 per room) from Hilton Hotels Corporation.

    • Dubai Investment Group and Oxford Lodging Group purchase of the 605-room Essex House hotel in New York City for $440 million (approximately $730,000 per room) from SHCLLC II.

    • JBG Companies and CIM Group purchase of the 1,334-room Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington, D.C. for $300 million (approximately $225,000 per room) from Thayer Lodging Group.

    Development of the Year

    • The Residence Inn-Times Square in New York City, a 357-room property, was developed at a cost of $155 million by MG Hotel LLC.

    • The St. Regis Hotel in San Francisco, Calif., a 260-room property, was developed by Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc., Carpenter and Company of Boston, F.E. Jordan Associates, at a cost of $250 million.

    • The Westin Bellevue in Bellevue, Wash., a 337-room property, was developed by Kemper Development Company at a cost of $81 million.

    In addition, Michael D. Eisner, past chairman and CEO of The Walt Disney Company will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award, and Hasmukh (H.P.) Rama, chairman and CEO of JHM Hotels and former AH&LA Chairman, will receive the International Society of Hospitality Consultants (ISHC) Pioneer Award.
