Travel Price Index Decreased 3.6 Percent in November

  • Travel Industry Association The November Travel Price Index, TPI, decreased 3.6 percent from October and was up 4.8 percent over November 2004.

    Gasoline prices dropped 15.8 percent compared to October; however, it was 16.2 percent higher against November 2004. Airfares decreased 1.5 percent over the previous month and increased 6.4 percent from twelve months earlier. Lodging prices was down 3.7 percent from October and increased 2.5 percent over a year ago. General inflation as reflected in the Consumer Price Index (CPI-U) decreased 0.8 percent from October. Compared to November 2004, CPI-U increased 3.5 percent.

    Developed by the Travel Industry Association of America's (TIA), the Travel Price Index (TPI) measures the seasonally unadjusted inflation rate of the cost of travel away from home in the United States. The TPI is based on U.S. Department of Labor price data collected for the monthly Consumer Price Index (CPI).
