  • Fairmont Fairmont Hotels & Resorts announced the appointment of Tammy Phillips, executive director, public relations. Phillips joins Fairmont's Corporate PR ranks from The Fairmont Royal York where she most recently held the position of Acting Director, Public Relations.

In her new role, Phillips will be responsible for increasing the awareness and understanding of the Fairmont brand through the development and execution of a fully integrated public relations and communications platform. Phillips will also have direct responsibility for Fairmont's media relations outreach, social responsibility initiatives, and crisis communications response. Adding to this, she will also oversee and guide the Corporate and hotel public relations team at Fairmont.

Phillips first began her hospitality career in 1992 in Fairmont's western stronghold of British Columbia as Public Relations Coordinator for The Fairmont Waterfront and The Fairmont Hotel Vancouver. From there, she migrated east to the Delta Lodge at Kananaskis as the Manager, Public Relations and then back to Vancouver as Assistant Director, Public Relations for Fairmont's BC Region. Following this, Phillips oversaw the communication efforts at The Fairmont Waterfront as Director, Public Relations.

After more than six years at Fairmont, Phillips, looking to further develop and refine her communications skills, headed south to Los Angeles where she established Coppertop Communications, an independent PR consulting firm specializing in tourism and hospitality. Her client list was a who's who of the industry including key companies such as the Canadian Tourism Commission, Metropolitan Hotels, Tourism Whistler, Travel Alberta, and Fairmont Hotels & Resorts to name a few. Following this, Phillips expanded her scope to include PR agency clients including KWE, MMG Mardicks, AFC Communications, and the Love-Rondeau Group.

Adding to her extensive work experience, Phillips is also a graduate of the Advanced Management Program for the Hospitality Industry at Ontario's Guelph University and possesses her Advanced Diploma in Public Relations from Durham College.

Phillips replaces Laura Fairweather who departed the brand for a position at the Canadian Tourism Commission.
