Hotel/motel room receipts grew 12.6 percent against December 2004 and 8.8 percent for the year to date. Hotel/motel jobs increased 1.2 percent during 2005. Employment in airlines experienced another tough year in 2005; total jobs declined 2.6 percent over 2004.
According to the Travel Industry Association of America's (TIA) Industry Performance Indicators (IPI), the month of December 2005 revealed an increase in domestic air revenue passenger miles (RPMs) by 0.1 percent compared to December 2004 and 2.6 percent for the year to date. International air RPMs rose 4.7 percent from a year earlier and 9.0 percent over the calendar year.
