MEMPHIS, Tennessee (December 1, 2000) - AsiaPulse - Female frequent travellers tend to stick to their hotel rooms more than males, according to a survey carried out by a hotel chain in the US.

Female business travelers tend to opt for room service, the room mini-bar and spacious two-room suites which allow a separation of work and sleep areas. Men, by comparison, tend to prefer to use more public areas, to use concierge services more often and to dine outside their rooms, according to a recent survey of 300 business travellers.

The Embassy Suites Hotels Space Survey found there are two distinct personality types in travellers - Upstairs and Downstairs guests. Upstairs personalities are defined by actions and characteristics of more introverted people who spend less time in public areas and prefer private spaces such as bedrooms over more social spaces such as lobbies and lounges. While the findings indicate that nearly two out of three female respondents classify themselves as extroverts, more than half of them change attitudes when travelling for business, describing their behavior as more Upstairs and introverted on a business trip. But, unlike their female counterparts, men overwhelmingly maintained the same downstairs personality when travelling for business or pleasure.

Downstairs hotel (or travel) personalities, according to the survey, enjoy hotel receptions, dining in the on-site restaurant and relaxing in open lobby areas.
