Gary Walton Named ''General Manager of the Year'' by Virginia Hospitality & Travel Association |

TARRYTOWN, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 19, 2001--A 24-year veteran of the hospitality industry, Gary Walton was recently honored with a State of Virginia's Star of the Industry award as General Manager of the Year (Large Property) at a luncheon sponsored by the Virginia Hospitality & Travel Association.
Walton is general manager at The Hotel Roanoke and Conference Center, a Doubletree Hotel, part of renowned Harrison Conference Centers(R) - Hilton, where he oversaw the renovation and reopening of the 332-room property in 1995 and has since served. He also is area vice president for Hilton Hotels Corporation's University Hotels & Conference Centers division.
Awards were given by a committee of lodging and hospitality executives on the basis of professionalism, performance beyond the call of duty, initiative, consistency and ability to be a contributing part of the team. In particular, Walton's leadership by example, ability to motivate his management team, and commitment to excellence were cited.

The distinction makes Walton eligible for the national general manager competition by the American Hotel & Lodging Association.
Walton has been with Hilton and Doubletree hotels for 15 years and during that period has served as general manager at properties in North Carolina, Kansas City, Atlanta, Phoenix and Denver. He was appointed area vice president overseeing conference properties in Florida, Dallas, North Carolina and Virginia earlier this year. As president of the Roanoke Valley Convention & Visitors Bureau, Walton further demonstrates his commitment to hospitality and the community of Roanoke.
