The Cornell University School of Hotel Administration and The Culinary Institute of America (CIA) have formed an advisory board to guide the alliance recently created by these leaders in hospitality and culinary education.
Advisory board members are:
Dr. Kathy Merget, dean of Liberal Arts & Management Studies at the CIA. Dr. Merget oversees faculty and staff, curricula, budget, and policies for business management, front of the house operations and liberal arts. She earned a B.S. from the State University of New York, Cortland, an M.A. from Marist College, and both an M.A. and a Ph.D. from Fordham University.
Gerard Fischetti, C.C.M., C.H.E., associate professor in Business Management at the CIA. Prior to joining the CIA faculty, Professor Fischetti served in executive positions with several foodservice enterprises. He graduated with honors from the CIA, and earned a B.S. from Florida State University and an M.S. from the Rochester Institute of Technology.
Dr. Sheryl E. Kimes, associate dean for Academic Affairs, and professor of Hospitality Facilities and Operations at the Cornell Hotel School. Associate Dean Kimes is a recognized authority on revenue management and service quality in the hospitality industry. She earned a B.S. from the University of Missouri, an M.B.A. from New Mexico State University, an M.A.P.A. from The University of Virginia, and a Ph.D. from the University of Texas-Austin.
Dr. Stephen A. Mutkoski, The Banfi Vintners Professor of Wine Education & Management in Hospitality Facilities and Operations at the Cornell Hotel School. Professor Mutkoski is known for his expertise in food and beverage management and was recently named the Wine Educator of the Year by the European Wine Council. He received an undergraduate and a doctoral degree from the Cornell Hotel School.
Mr. Richard J. Bradley is chairman and president of Bradley Holdings Limited, a company investing in venture capital transactions, commercial real estate, hotels and restaurants. Mr. Bradley has built a long and distinguished career as an entrepreneur, including his former role as chairman and president of Victoria Station, owner-operator of 105 restaurants in the U.S., Canada, and Japan. A graduate of the Cornell Hotel School, Mr. Bradley serves on the Dean's Advisory Board, the Cornell University Council, and the Cornell Real Estate Council. He is also a past president of the Cornell Hotel Society, the school's alumni body. Additionally, Mr. Bradley is a trustee of The Culinary Institute of America, and is a member of the CIA's Executive Committee and Chairman of the Audit Committee.
In January, the Cornell School of Hotel Administration and The Culinary Institute of America launched a collaborative degree program for students seeking a preeminent education in hospitality management and the culinary arts. Students who complete this intensive program will earn a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Hotel Administration and an Associate in Occupational Studies (A.O.S.) degree in Culinary Arts. The collaborative degree program is an important step forward in an alliance that aims to serve the hospitality industry through education, research and professional skills development.
"The Cornell-CIA advisory board brings together accomplished professionals from the academic and business communities who have the wisdom and experience to effectively lead this alliance," said Michael Johnson, dean of the Cornell Hotel School. "Under the board's direction, Cornell and the CIA look forward to creating more programs that deliver distinctive learning experiences in hospitality management and the culinary arts for both students and professionals."
The joint advisory board will convene its first meeting in September.
