Gourmet's October 2006 Restaurant Issue, available on newsstands September 26, includes a list of America's Top 50 Restaurants, which the magazine compiles every five years. Editor in chief Ruth Reichl, along with several of the magazine's food critics, ate anonymously at hundreds of restaurants across the country to select the nation's best restaurants.
