Cornell Hotel School Professional Development Program Adds Ten New Courses for 2007

  • Cornell The Cornell University School of Hotel Administration will offer ten new courses as part of its expanded Professional Development Program (PDP) for hospitality managers and executives.

    In the new courses, Cornell faculty members will bring unique perspective to subjects that have emerged as crucial to hospitality industry managers. 'These new courses will help professionals stay on top of emerging trends and technologies,' says Tom Kline, Director of Executive Education. 'Through continual refinement to the curriculum, our faculty provides cutting edge insights into the strategic, managerial and operational practices that are shaping the future of the hospitality industry.'

    New courses include Operations Management for the Hospitality Industry, which examines the use of decision models and tools to enhance operating performance. Another new course, Introduction to Six Sigma Quality Management in the Hospitality Industry, is designed to help managers maximize efficiency and productivity. Other new offerings include Predicting Customer Choices for Increasing Market Share and Revenues; Restaurant Development; Customer Attitudes and Behaviors: Understanding Your Market; Real Estate Finance and Capital Markets: Structured Finance; Hotel Managers' Guide to Information Management; Franchising in the Hospitality Industry; Workforce Staffing and Scheduling; and Powerful Management Presentations: Generating Results Through Effective Communication.

    PDP courses will be offered on three continents -- on the Cornell campus in Ithaca, New York, in Brussels, Belgium, and in Singapore. Participants will learn from Cornell faculty members who have vast experience predicting, formulating, and testing strategies for effective management. The PDP faculty are professional educators skilled at helping managers relate theory to practice.

    More than 1,000 professionals from nearly 100 countries attend Cornell Hotel School executive programs annually. In addition to mastering the coursework, participants benefit from building friendships with an internationally diverse assembly of colleagues.
