InterContinental Hotels Group to manage Holiday Inn Malé

  • InterContinental The Capital's first international hotel set to become a prominent landmark in Maldives

    InterContinental Hotels Group has signed an agreement with Malé Hotel Associates Sourcing Limited, to manage the Holiday Inn Malé in Maldives, scheduled to open in late 2008.

    The new Holiday Inn property is set to become a prominent landmark in Malé, the capital island of the Maldives. With genuine service of a global reputation, Holiday Inn Malé will attract business travellers and holiday maker's enroute to neighbouring destinations.

    Enjoying an ideal location at the junction of Nasreeny Goalhi and Ameer Ahmed Magu, Holiday Inn Malé is adjacent to The President's office, several banks and government ministries.

    Malé Hotel Associates Sourcing Limited, shareholders Mr Abdul Sattar Ali and Mr Lawrence Lee expressed confidence in the InterContinental Hotels Group saying the Holiday Inn Malé will serve as the business and social focal point for Maldivian's , commercial visitors and guests enroute to the outlying resort islands.

    Maldives is enjoying robust economic growth and is thriving as a destination due to the unique one island, one resort concept and its white sand beaches, blue lagoons and tropical marine life. Tourism accounts for almost 60 percent of the country's foreign exchange earnings, employs 20 percent of the labour force (91,000 persons) and accounts for the largest share of GDP. InterContinental Hotels Group, with its strong management and operating systems, is our strategic partner in realising our dream of turning the Holiday Inn Malé into a prominent landmark for the Maldives.'

    The 120-room hotel will offer meeting facilities, a range of food and beverage outlets, recreational facilities including a rooftop swimming pool as well as a spa and fitness centre.

    The hotel site provides for easy access to tourist landmarks like the National Museum, the Sultan's Palace (former official residence of The President), the Sultan Park, the Presidential Palace and souvenir shops.
