Customers and our members can and should expect an extraordinary lifestyle experience.
The Southern California properties are among 108 winners -- 59 lodgings and 49 restaurants -- in the United States, Canada and Mexico to receive the AAA Five Diamond Award.
The year 2001 lineup of AAA Five Diamond Awards has nine new restaurants, the largest number added to the prestigious list in a decade. One of those nine is The Dining Room in The Ritz-Carlton Laguna Niguel, Dana Point.
The other eight are: Le Baccara, Hull, Quebec; Nuances, Montreal; Auberge Hatley Inn, North Hatley, Quebec; Victoria & Albert's in Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, Lake Buena Vista, Fla.; Seasons, in Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea, Wailea, Hawaii; Tru and Seasons Restaurant in the Four Seasons Hotel, Chicago; and El Restaurante, Four Seasons Hotel, Mexico, D.F., Mexico City.
The Four Seasons Resort Aviara in Carlsbad, Calif. made the list for the second year. Five hotels also distinguished themselves by winning the AAA Five Diamond rating for 25 consecutive years. These winners will receive special recognition at the awards dinner tonight at The Fairmont Scottsdale Princess, Scottsdale, Ariz.
Those honored are: Marriott's Camelback Inn Resort, Golf Club & Spa, Scottsdale; The Broadmoor, Colorado Springs, Colo.; C Lazy U Ranch, Granby, Colo.; The Greenbrier, White Sulphur Springs, W. Va.; and Four Seasons Hotel Vancouver, Vancouver, B.C.
To be considered for AAA approval and rating, lodgings and restaurants must undergo a thorough inspection by one of AAA's 60 full-time professional evaluators. The Auto Club's own staff reviews all Southern California establishments. Five Diamond establishments go through the most extensive reviews.
AAA first started listing accommodation information in its travel publications in the early 1900s. In 1937, the first field inspectors were hired to inspect hotels, motels and restaurants. In 1963, AAA began to rate all accommodations as good, very good, excellent and outstanding. The current one-to-five diamond rating system was introduced in 1977 during AAA's 75th anniversary.
The Automobile Club of Southern California, the largest affiliate of the AAA, has been serving members since 1900. Today, the Auto Club's members benefit by the organization's roadside assistance service, insurance services, travel agency, financial products, automotive pricing, buying and financing programs, automotive testing and analysis, trip planning services, highway and transportation safety programs and legislative advocacy.
Information about these products and services is available on the Auto Club's Web site at www.aaa-calif.com.
