Nomura to Bid for Le Meridien Hotel Chain |
November 14, 2000 -- HVS International -- According to an article in The Times newspaper, Guy Hands, the British unit of Japan's Nomura Securities and Nomura's Principal Finance arm, is interested in placing a bid for the Le Meridien Hotel chain.
The 120-strong group has been put on the market by Granada Compass and is expected to fetch between £2.5 billion. In recent weeks many of the large international hotel companies have declared their interest in the luxury hotel group, which may trigger a bidding war.
Meanwhile, NH Hoteles has been quoted as a possible contender for the UK-based Posthouse chain. Nomura is the second-largest pub landlord and has recently become the largest off-licence operator through the acquisition of First Quench for £225 million.
