Expert Speakers Served up Innovative Solutions For Hospitality Executives At European Congress in Maastricht |

OSLO, NORWAY (Nov. 15, 2000) -- An impressive line-up of expert speakers gave the 250 delegates who attended the recently held annual European Congress 2000 held in Maastricht, the Netherlands, much to consider. Themed “Hospitality Education and Hospitality Industry – A Perfect Couple in a New Millennium,” the extensive three-day program offered valuable and timely information relative to both senior executive and manager level industry professionals.
Speakers from a cross-section of companies around the world addressed the present state and future of the hospitality, travel and tourism industry. The following quotes reflect some of the speaker highlights:
“Ignore Generation Y at your peril. This is the first generation with global connectivity with vertical reference groups, which spread across the globe.”
Dr, Lalia Rach, dean, Preston Robert Tisch Center for Hospitality, Tourism and Travel, New York University, New York, on Generation Y, the generation with more sophisticated tastes and higher income than any generation of youth before it.
“If you go after wired customers, than you’d better back up the promises with wired solutions.”
David Atkins, director of hospitality business marketing for Expedia, who offered useful tips about the electronic age.
“All things being equal, people will buy from a friend.”
Max Hitchins, “marketing, meeting and motivation magician,” and world president of the International Federation for Professional Speaker Associations, Australia, suggested ways of thinking out of the box, and sharing some of his innovative techniques for making staff, customers and potential business partners like you.
“A job completed as a small favor will often lead to a much higher and better referral. Never think that any job is too small or beneath you.”
Ivan Misner, Ph.D, founder and CEO of Business Network Int’l (BNI), who also urged delegates to put themselves in play, warning them against being a cave dweller stuck in the same rut between the office and the home.
“Engender respect for staff and guests alike and empower staff to act rapidly and with authority should a problem arise.”
Cindy Novotny, Master Connection Associates/Ritz Carlton Learning Institute, USA, outlined Ritz Carlton’s training philosophy in her session on finding and keeping human capital
Additionally, a number of dynamic speakers addressed a range of vital issues pertinent to sales and marketing executives, including latest trends and developments, techniques in sales and marketing, e-services, human capital, branding and business development, among many others.
The annual European Congress 2000 Maastricht is organized by the Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association’s (HSMAI) Division Europe, along with the European Council on Hotel, Restaurant & Institutional Education (EuroCHRIE) and the International Association of Hotel Management Schools (IAHMS). The event is hosted by the Hotel Management School Maastricht, celebrating its 50th anniversary.
