November 17, 2000 -- HVS International -- The Alternative Hotel Company, which owns and operates Hotel du Vin, the growing brand of boutique-styled hotels, has welcomed another high profile investor. Chris Akers, the sports entrepreneur who founded Sports Internet and recently floated the Sports Resource Group, has gained a 5% stake and has become a non-executive director in the company in exchange for a £1 million investment.
Other main shareholders include the Monaco-based copper trading millionaire, Ashley Levett, who holds a 40% stake and Anita and Gordon Roddick, famed for the Body Shop, with a 25% stake.
There are currently three branded Hotel du Vin properties located in Bristol, Winchester and Tunbridge Wells. A fourth provincial hotel, comprising 66 bedrooms, is scheduled to open in 2001 following a £7.5 million investment to convert the former Birmingham and Midland Eye Hospital.
