  • InterContinental Officials with InterContinental Hotels Group, the owner of the iconic Holiday Inn brand, said Monday the company must change to remain relevant in today's highly competitive hospitality industry.

The company, whose brands also include Crowne Plaza, InterContinental, Staybridge Suites and Hotel Indigo, said chains that accept mediocrity are doomed to be left behind.

"In today's world, that is not the middle ground, that's the dead zone," said Andy Cosslett, chief executive officer of the London-based company whose headquarters for the Americas is in Atlanta. "And no one can prosper there."

More than 5,400 owners, employees and executives with the company have gathered in Dallas this week for IHG's national meeting. The opening ceremonies were part pep talk and part guidance on the future.
