November 24, 2000 -- HVS International -- Premier Hotels, established in 1996 to develop internationally branded economy hotels throughout the UK, has purchased Oriel Leisure, the Express by Holiday Inn operator, for £42 million.
Oriel currently has five hotels in operation within the UK and a further three hotels under construction in Gateshead, Lichfield and Southampton.
Premier will now control some 14 Express by Holiday Inn Hotels, some 1,600 rooms making it the largest franchisee of the brand.
Premier, which is also the master franchisee for the US-owned Days Inn and Howard Johnson brands, is currently engaged in an extensive development programme, whereby one new build hotel is opened each week.
Recent openings include the Days Inn in Glasgow and a Howard Johnson in London, with forthcoming hotel openings in Liverpool, Birmingham and Poole.
