Luxury Designer Hotel opens in the Australian Capital |
|
Eight Hotels Australia redefines the luxury hotel landscape by introducing the Diamant Hotel Canberra. |
This spectacular 80 room property is positioned by Lake Burley Griffin in the heart of Canberra and forms part of the $300m mixed use re-development of the NewActon precinct. This historic and heritage listed building has undergone a sensitive $60 million high design transformation, shaping the physical and cultural heart of the precinct, creating Canberra's first luxury boutique hotel.
The hotel is immersed in a series of beautifully designed, contemporary landscaped gardens. International architectural firm Fender Katsalidis have recreated the 1920's structure adding a stunning and modern industrial foyer to the original, blending contemporary building design with heritage old world charm.
Celebrated designers SJB Interiors, worked with the generously sized guest rooms and used three different schemes. The first uses 1960's inspired wallpaper to the ceilings in black and white with sumptuous black velvet curtains and custom sofas in grey mohair. The second has brooding chocolate walls and red accents whilst the third is period style, with wallpaper in French 'blue/grey' and collectable furnishings. Underscoring this is a custom Chevron carpet in slate/anthracite and cream. All rooms have an extensive collection of art.
The corridors are dramatic using existing door openings the walls are lavished in tobacco colours with neon light sculptures. The bathrooms are serenely understated in Pietro Grigio stone and white crystal vanities.
Guest rooms are equipped with the latest security, technology and in-room entertainment expected by the savvy modern day traveller. Guests will find Bang & Olufsen televisions with cable, DVD players, fully stocked automated mini bars, fast speed internet access and MP3 connections. Soft touches are enjoyed in each room with luxurious bedding and linnen, premium toiletries by Kevin Murphy, oversized bath towels and premium plunger coffee.
The Diamant's foyer showcases extraordinary design pieces such as Corallo armchairs by the world renowned Campana Brothers, rugs by Tai Ping and Italian made Flos cocoon light fittings. Public spaces are adorned with an eclectic collection of emerging and established art works, including sculptures, installations, contemporary and indigenous paintings.
The SJB Interior design for the foyer has references to futurism with a large fireplace and reception desk forms undulating from the floor. The walls in zinc extended the materiality of the exterior to the interior. A large fireplace centralizes a seating group complied of 1970's referenced lounges in blue velvet, original 1950's and 1960's arm chairs in apple and off white wools. A large organic blue/purple rug and reclaimed timber log table with large steel sculptures and pendants add drama to the double height volume.
The Diamant Lounge Bar, in collaboration with Perrier Jouet is located in the hotel lobby. Guests will find themselves surrounded by an intimate library where they can enjoy the world's finest champagne in the warmth of a log fireplace, a classic collection of ambient music and complimentary wireless internet.
Throughout all the spaces art is infused and the existing architecture takes prominence.
The NewActon village plays host to Du Jour Café, Flint Dining Room and Bar and Parlour Wine Room. Soma Day Spa, a Pilate's studio, and an onsite gymnasium are also located within the hotel premises. All facilities are available to guests and visitors. Undercover secure parking is accessible on request through the hotel.
Located within the Parliamentary Zone, the Diamant Canberra is only moments away from the National Museum, National Gallery, Canberra School of Art & Music, National Film and Sound Archive, Canberra Theatre, Llewellyn Hall and many other cultural, political and entertainment icons.
