August 25, 2000 -- HVS International -- Best Western, the world's largest chain of mid-scale independently owned and operated hotels has entered into a franchise alliance with Sur International Hotels, the Sultanate's largest hotel chain.
According to Sheikh Mubarak Bahwan, the Chairman of Sur International, the company fully supports the country's endeavour to boost the tourism sector. The alliance will promote Oman on a global scale as a Best Western destination.
According to Anand Gupta, Chief Executive Officer of Best Western Middle East and South Asia, Best Western will become the largest mid-scale chain in the Middle East, targeting ten properties in the first year and 20 in the next three years.
Sur International Hotels will be renamed to carry the Best Western brand.
