NaturCert is the global independent organization which has developed the NaturCert Certification Program for the environment and society. NaturCert has just returned from the World Travel Market that took place in ExCel Center in London from the 10th-13th November 2008.
World Travel Market is the global event for the travel industry and it takes place annually in London. It is a business to business event presenting a diverse range of destinations and industry sectors to UK and international travel professionals.
This years World Travel Market was a vibrant event that provided us with the opportunity to meet and interact with people from a variety of backgrounds and professions.
We were very pleased to see our submitted photograph on the wall of the main boulevard for the World Responsible Tourism Day, from our first public initiative Local Campaign. The 12th November which was the day dedicated to responsible tourism was full of events and happenings and companies and individuals from all over the world participated with numerous ways.
World Travel Market is an extremely large space and we used our pedometer from the Just a Drop initiative to count our steps inside ExCel. We left on the last day of the World Travel Market having done 45.000 steps. We think that this is pretty amazing considering that the average American man walks 7.912 steps a day! (source)
We also noticed that sheer quantities of paper have been accumulated during World Travel Market. It seems that lavish presentations can only be achieved in print and very few are actually using digital methods that are less expensive and friendlier to the environment. We truly hope that next year we are going to see less paper being used.
The next World Travel Market will take place once again in ExCel Center on 9th-12th November 2009.
