  • Hotel News Resource Ninety-Six Percent of Guests Are Comfortable and Safe Traveling in Riviera Maya

Contrary to continued media coverage inaccurately linking unaffected tourist destinations in Mexico with isolated issues in distant border towns, 96 percent of guests traveling to areas such as Riviera Maya report feeling comfortable and completely safe during their vacations whereas 100 percent of guests felt safe while on-site at the destination's resorts, according to El Dorado Spa Resorts & Hotels and Azul Hotels by Karisma.

After surveying 431 individuals who visited Riviera Maya during March 2009, an outstanding 96 percent of travelers felt safe in the greater Riviera Maya area during their stays and 100 percent of guests felt safe within the resorts. Furthermore, only 4 percent of guests felt moderately safe traveling in areas outside of the resorts, while less than 1 percent of guests did not feel safe leaving the resort. The survey also concluded 87 percent of visitors were aware of recent news reports of violence in Mexico prior to traveling and continued plans as normal. Finally, after having visited, 84 percent of guests felt media reports did not reflect the overall climate and safety of Riviera Maya.

'This survey further supports our conviction that the true sentiment experienced by visitors in Mexico's tourist destinations is very positive, but largely overshadowed by negative news reports regarding violence in border towns,' said Mandy Chomat, vice president of sales and marketing for Premier Worldwide Marketing, exclusive worldwide representatives for El Dorado Spa Resorts & Hotels and Azul Hotels by Karisma. 'Not only do guests feel safe in Mexico's Riviera Maya, but 97 percent of survey respondents expressed interest in returning to the area based on their recent trips, a testament to Mexico's popular tourist destinations and their resorts conducting business as usual.'
