In the largest hotel sale in company history, Expedia.com(R), the world's leading online travel site, has partnered with more than 5,000 hotels across more than 350 destinations worldwide to help hotels bolster consumer demand for summer travel.
Expedia's annual summer sale has grown to become one of the most significant hotel promotional events in online travel. In 2008, room nights for hotels that participated in the summer sale grew 42 percent faster than hotels that did not take part.
'Expedia(R) sales offer a proven way for hotels to drive demand by reaching an audience of savvy online travel shoppers in an economy where consumers are looking for great deals,' said Michael Reichartz, vice president of market management, Expedia. 'Expedia is focused on intelligently matching travel supply and consumer demand. Events like this hotel sale give hotels a level of exposure that only Expedia can deliver.'
The launch of Expedia.com's summer sale comes on the heels of sweeping changes to the company's service policies to offer further incentives to travel shoppers in a slow economy. Late last month, Expedia.com announced the elimination of online air booking fees, and also removed change fees and cancel fees from Expedia.com on all hotel, car rental and cruise reservations and on virtually all flight reservations.
In addition to large promotions like Expedia.com's summer sale, Expedia partners benefit from targeted international, themed and location-specific sales. This full range of Expedia promotional opportunities works in conjunction with a suite of other need-based exposure tools that enable Expedia hotel partners to drive demand, nimbly respond to business needs, and tap into Expedia's industry-leading revenue management expertise.
