  • ARTEH Hotels and Resorts ARTEH(R) organizes the Press Trip 'Discovering the Casas do Côro', an ARTEH(R) Hotel in Marialva.

The Press Trip took off from Lisbon, and after driving for some hours we found the Casas do Côro at the top of the small village of Marialva. This is a tranquil place where it's hard not to surrender to the charm of the Hotel, to the tasty toasted almonds and the refreshing 'welcome drink' lemonade.

In the dining room where we were received, the decoration, the style and the pieces of furniture combine perfectly the space and time. With cameras, papers and pens in hand we started the tour, guided by the owners Carmen Sampaio and Paulo Romão.

We were lodged in the Suites of the new and superbly decorated Pipa, São Pedro, Torre and Palheiro Houses, in a comfortable and luxurious style where you feel like staying forever.

The dinner, well accompanied by the Casas do Côro wine, exceeded all our expectations. Still lodged in our memory is the Bôla da Páscoa with cheese and pepper confit accompanied by champagne, the crispy green asparagus puff pastry with peach jam, the indescribable cod with vegetable purée and finally... the delicious regional desserts.

Having finished this feast we were driven to the Refúgio das Fragas, the new exterior Lounge of the hotel, with six day beds to chillout at the end of the day. This is definitely the ideal place to relax, read a book or have a cup of tea contemplating the landscape over Marialva.

The next morning, we met for the tasty breakfast with homemade jams made by the owner, regional cheeses and natural juices. We were still beginning a day that promised to be stimulating and which started with a trip through time, in the little streets and through the history of the village of Marialva, followed by the discovery of the region in a fabulous trip on the Rio Douro, in the Casas do Côro boat.

On returning to the Cais do Pocinho, where we boarded hours before, we continued this time by jeep towards Muxagata bound for Quinta da Erva Moira. With a view of the endless hectares of vine, a wine tasting session of the Ramos Pinto Wines awaited us, as well as a visit to the museum and the delicious lunch...

On the way back, there was an urge to return, to what is a true refuge where charm, good taste and good regional food are the guests delight.

    About Casas do Côro

The Casas do Côro are located in the heart of the Medieval Marialva, a historical Portuguese village, in a region where the signs of man reach as far back as the Palaeolithic era.

The refurbishment of these century old houses and the harmonious combination of the structures' granite with the refined decor are an astonishing surprise. The feel is rustic, yet doesn't compromise the comfort demanded by the times and afforded by the surrounding space.

From the panoramic terraces the region's landscape may be appreciated, replete with hills, deep valleys and meandering rivers, a constant invitation to the practice of sports or the enjoyment of unforgettable walks.

Relish in the traditional sweets early in the morning and avoid missing a fulfilling lunch characteristic of the local gastronomy, well accompanied by wine from the cellar and vineyard of Casas do Côro.

Beyond Marialva there are four more historical villages not to be missed, several castles, archaeological circuits and the Côa's famous Palaeolithic rock engravings.
