  • Hotwire The rising Canadian dollar, global downturn and U.S. border restrictions, deterred many travelers from visiting popular destinations like Montreal and Vancouver this summer. Even Toronto, a popular international destination, took a hit this summer resulting in a hotel rate drop of 11 percent when compared to last year.

Hotwire.com , a leading discount travel site, today announced the results of the September Hotwire Canadian Hotel Rate Report. This monthly report features the top 10 cities in Canada where hotel rates have dropped the most. When combined with Hotwire's already discounted prices, the Hotel Rate Report helps guide customers to the destinations that will maximize their travel dollars. Cambridge, Ontario made it to the number one spot with a 20 percent drop, followed by Vancouver and Quebec City (18 percent and 16 percent, respectively).

Hotwire is able to find great deals because it works with hotels, airlines and car rental companies to fill unsold inventory, which means that customers will find deals that they won't see anywhere else, especially in cities like those on the Hotel Rate Report where prices are unseasonably low.

The rising Canadian dollar, global downturn and U.S. border restrictions, deterred many travelers from visiting popular destinations like Montreal and Vancouver this summer. Even Toronto, a popular international destination, took a hit this summer resulting in a hotel rate drop of 11 percent when compared to last year. Toronto's drop appears to be reverberated out to other cities in Ontario's Greater Golden Horseshoe, such as Cambridge, and resort gateway Barrie, which was at number five with a 13 percent drop.
