Ronald Nilsson Appointed as General Manager of Swissôtel Kolkata, Swissotel Hotels & Resorts‚ First Property in India

  • Swissôtel Swissôtel Hotels & Resorts is pleased to announce the appointment of Ronald Nilsson as General Manager of Swissôtel Kolkata which will be the internationally renowned Swiss hospitality chain's maiden property in the Indian subcontinent. Ronald will head the pre-opening and opening team of the 147-room deluxe development located in the city district of Rajarhat (New Town) that is scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2010.

    Ronald moves to India from his hometown of Düsseldorf, Germany where he has developed a career in hospitality for the past 15 years. Since 2007, he has been General Manager of Swissôtel Düsseldorf/Neuss, Germany. During this tenure, he directed a major 14-month renovation programme involving the entire property including introducing new food and beverage concepts to successfully reposition Swissôtel Düsseldorf in Germany and Europe.

    Since he was first appointed Regional Sales Manager for SORAT Hotels, Düsseldorf in 1998, Ronald has progressed to assume several senior sales and marketing appointments. These include Sales & Marketing Director at Radisson SAS Hotel Düsseldorf and subsequently, Director of Sales & Marketing at Hotel Nikko, Düsseldorf, Germany, a position he held for four years from 2003. Thereafter, he joined Swissôtel Düsseldorf/Neuss as General Manager.

    A native German, Ronald is fluent in German, English and Swedish.

    Swissôtel Kolkata, the newest member of the Swissôtel family, adjoins the newly opened second City Centre shopping mall and will house 147 luxuriously appointed rooms and suites. Culinary temptations include an all-day casual dining restaurant serving local and international fare, a specialty fine-dining Indian restaurant and a rooftop lounge and bar on the 8th floor that will offer unobstructed views of Kolkata served with a heady mix of cocktails and canapés. An intimate lobby bar boasting talk-of-the-town DJs will be the perfect rendezvous to savour the best cocktails in Kolkata. Other facilities include conference rooms with 1,261 square metres of meeting and banquet space, a fitness centre and a rooftop swimming pool.

    A 10-year management contract was signed in September 2009 between Swissôtel Hotels & Resorts and Bengal Ambuja Housing Development Limited Pvt. Ltd. (BAHDL), which is part of the Ambuja Realty Group in India belonging to the prominent Neotia family.
