Choice Hotels Opens Flagship Comfort Inn Osaka, Japan |

Silver Spring, MD (November 15, 2002) — Worldwide lodging franchisor Choice Hotels International (NYSE:CHH) opened the first new construction Comfort Inn brand hotel in Osaka, Japan. The Comfort Hotel Osaka Shinsaibashi of Osaka will serve as the flagship for all future Comfort brand hotels in Japan.
“This property marks a great achievement for Choice Hotels in growing our brands, particularly the Comfort brand, in major sections of Japan,” said Bruce Haase, senior vice president, International. “Osaka is the third largest city in the country and is a major corporate travel destination on both a national and international basis. This new property gives Choice Hotels an excellent opportunity to showcase our product to the Japanese market while giving U.S. travelers to the region a familiar place to stay.”
Comfort Hotel Osaka Shinsaibashi is located in the hub of Osaka’s historic and retail district and is convenient to department stores, fashion retailers, cafes, restaurants and Asia’s first Universal Studios. The hotel is only minutes from both the Shinsaibashi and Nagahoribashi subway stations, making it easy to visit famous sites like Kobe and Kyoto.
In addition to the standard Comfort Inn amenities which include a 20” remote control TV with cable programming, telephone with data port, desk, electric hot water pot, hair dryer, and refrigerator, the 198-room Comfort Hotel Osaka Shinsaibashi features some of the latest technologies and concepts found in Japan including flat screen TV’s, broadband Internet access free of charge and a ladies only floor, which has become a popular feature at this property and a few other hotels in Japan. Guestrooms on the ladies only floor feature such unique amenities as an air purifier and massage showerhead.
The hotel provides a free deluxe continental breakfast featuring both Japanese and western cuisine.
Room rates begin at $52 (USD). Discounts are available when booked in advance for seniors, AAA members, business travelers, government and military personnel and groups.
From December 1, 2002 through February 28, 2003, the hotels’ management company, Greens Co. Ltd. of Yokkaichi-shi, Mie is offering a special promotion to guests from outside Japan. International travelers who stay at the hotels will receive an upgrade from a single room to a larger double room based on availability at check in at no extra charge.
There are currently 1,733 Comfort Inn hotels open and 156 under development worldwide, representing 144,824 rooms.
