  • Expedia Largest online travel company shows commitment to Vegas through online promotions and consumer marketing programs

Expedia, Inc. (NASDAQ: EXPE), parent company to online travel sites Expedia.com® and Hotels.com®, and the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) were recognized last week for a campaign designed to drive bookings and sales to the Las Vegas tourism industry. The International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC), during its annual prestigious Maxi Awards ceremony, awarded silver honors to the online travel leader and its partners for the Expedia® Something Extra Shopping Incentive campaign.

During the campaign, Expedia.com customers booking trips to Las Vegas were rewarded with exclusive retail offers and valuable discounts they could redeem while in town at three Las Vegas shopping destinations: Fashion Show, the Grand Canal Shoppes and the Shoppes at the Palazzo.  The program drove additional online bookings to Las Vegas, and boosted shopping interest at all three shopping properties.

“We value Expedia’s creativity and partnership in developing programs like this that encourage travel bookings to Las Vegas” said Art Jimenez, Senior Director of Leisure Sales with the LVCVA.  “We knew that by collaborating with a strong travel partner like Expedia, we would increase bookings, bolster business for local retailers, and deliver unique value to Las Vegas visitors.”

Within the last year, Expedia has run many promotions featuring Las Vegas on the website, which attracts over 15 million visitors every month. Expedia has also collaborated with Las Vegas on other programs similar to the “Something Extra” program to drive incremental travel bookings by encouraging bookings to certain destinations or at specific properties with enticing value adds, such as gift certificates for the shows at V Theater.

“The strong results of this program are truly indicative of Expedia’s ability to influence travel bookings and sales by showcasing enticing product offerings to a targeted audience of consumers,” said  Ash Kapur, Director of Gaming Region for Expedia.  “This program represents one of the ways Expedia chooses to support its hotel partners, and that is by supporting the destinations themselves.  Along those lines, we greatly value our relationships with our partners in Vegas, so to be able to deliver a campaign at minimal cost to them, with such a high level of success is very gratifying.”
