IMHI Students in Humanitarian Aid Action |

Cergy Pontoise/Paris, France, 10 December 2002 – IMHI (ESSEC – Cornell University) students will participate in a scheme to deliver text books and furniture to needy schools in Morocco in February 2003. It is organised in the form of a rally by the ESC Rennes Business School in partnership with UNICEF and Desertours, a French Tour Operator. Teams from 50 French Business Schools, driving old Renault 4’s, will each attempt to get to their load of 100 kilograms of supplies to the finishing line first.
IMHI students created an Association in August 2002 to launch the initiative and raise sponsorship. “This is a great idea because we can help people less fortunate than ourselves, raise the profile of IMHI - (ESSEC – Cornell University), generate enthusiasm for further community initiatives within the student body, and have fun!” said 4L IMHI Association President Yves Gaspard.
Commercial sponsors have already shown themselves keen to get involved and demonstrate their commitment to community-related programmes and to hospitality education. The Golden Tulip Hotel Porte de St Cloud will host a cocktail end of January for 60 guests to launch the event. Disneyland Resort Paris is helping the association through technical support. The Domaine de Belesbat will be hosting a cocktail dinner on Friday, 25th April for 130 people to honour the association’s efforts and to encourage further initiatives. We are delighted to be associated with this initiative said Thierry Jeannet, from Domaine de Belesbat. As a learning organisation, the support we provide throughout the event will highlight the importance we attribute to human development programmes.
Richard Edelstein, Director of IMHI underlined IMHI's enthusiastic support for the event by contributing financially to the sponsorship drive. At a strategic meeting held with students earlier this year, the development of civic values and initiatives that help contribute to a sustainable future was highlighted as an important part of the IMHI experience he said. We believe that this project is an outstanding example of the type of initiative that we wish to encourage.
The Association is looking for further sponsorship to help with the rally logistics and its student members will be setting up other initiatives to raise finance from their fellow students.
