ORLANDO (November 15, 2002) – For the second year in a row, Holiday Inn Family Suites Resort Lake Buena Vista has received a No. 1 ranking from its most important judges – hotel guests.
The resort was named the Best Holiday Inn North America by Six Continents™ Hotels’ Priority Club Rewards – the largest multi-brand customer loyalty program worldwide with 10 million members. The announcement, made today during the Six Continents Global Investors Conference in San Diego, marks the second straight year that the resort has received recognition from Priority Club members. Following up on the resort’s Best Overall Hotel North America award in 2001, this year’s award is an impressive showing of customer support for a resort only now entering its third year of operations.
“We created Holiday Inn Family Suites Resort as a direct result of many years of listening to our customers,” said Terry Whaples, resort president. “Being recognized by our most frequent customers last year was a great honor, but to be recognized two years in a row continues to show us that we are giving our customers what they requested, an unmatched family resort experience.”
Priority Club Worldwide members cast their ballots this summer for the Best Holiday Inn North America, selecting from more than 1,000 Holiday Inn hotels and resorts.
“Being named the Best Overall Hotel North America is one of the greatest honors that can be bestowed upon a hotel and its management and staff,” said Steve Porter, Six Continents Hotels’ Americas Division president. “The 2002 Priority Club Members Choice awards are particularly significant because they are the only awards voted on by a most important group of individuals: customers – and specifically, our most frequent customers – Priority Club Members.”
Evolution of Holiday Inn Family Suites Resort
The evolution of Holiday Inn Family Suites Resort started in 1975 when Terry Whaples joined John Glenn, Henri Landwirth and John Quinn in their search to find new ways to make their Holiday Inn franchise near Walt Disney World more “family friendly.” Ever since they have been launching new innovations, and in 1989 began developing the concept that became one of Holiday Inn’s hottest brands – SunSpree Resorts – launched in 1993. This flagship resort featured oversized rooms with many family amenities including a kids-only dining area, “child-safe” rooms and beeper rentals for parents who leave the property.
Following the success of SunSpree, the group again introduced a travel innovation that changed the face of the family travel industry – KidsuitesSM. Upon their launch at two Central Florida resorts – Holiday Inn SunSpree Resort Lake Buena Vista and Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites Main Gate East – Kidsuites represented the first major change to standard hotel room design in more than fifty years, providing separate sleeping and entertainment areas for both kids and adults.
The popularity of Kidsuites – now in more than 50 Holiday Inn hotels & resorts in destinations around the world – was the inspiration for Holiday Inn Family Suites Resort, which brought the concept behind Kidsuites to an all-suite setting.
Holiday Inn Family Suites Resort offers five suite types with something for every individual’s needs and tastes, including Kidsuites, Classic Two-Bedroom Suites, Residential Suites, SweetHeart Suites and CinemaSuites. The resort is divided into two courtyards, the East Track and West Track. For parents traveling with young children the East Track courtyard is highlighted by a zero-depth entry pool with interactive water park features, a kiddy pool, playground and Putt-Putt Junction, a 9-hole miniature putt-putt course. The West Track courtyard offers an Olympic-sized lap pool, two whirlpools and a complimentary fitness center. Additional resort features include kids’ check-in desk, a free all-you-can-eat hot breakfast buffet daily for every guest, the Kids Eat Free Program for children 12 and under and free scheduled transportation to all four Walt Disney World Resort theme parks.
