TORONTO (December 18, 2002) - Function spaces in Fairmont Hotels & Resorts have been receiving new looks, as historic hotels rediscover their original grandeur, storied resorts add brand-new facilities and the hotel company welcomes new additions to the family.
The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise will combine modern business needs and unique heritage experiences in natural surroundings with a new Meeting Facility created to satisfy the minds, bodies and spirits of those who arrive at its doors. Reinforcing the hotel's strong, ongoing commitment to heritage tourism and the environment, The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise Meeting Facility, scheduled for completion in mid-2003, has been specifically designed to minimize its impact on its surroundings and blend seamlessly with the existing architecture. The new addition will resemble a 16th-century French châtelet, historically recognized as the gatehouse and fortress bastion for the larger chateau. Set into a small hillside, this new wing will offer 15,120 square feet of meeting space capable of hosting up to 700 persons, and six separate meeting areas that can accommodate 30 - 80. The meeting facility interior has been designed for interpretive use, incorporating displays and information on heritage, wildlife and ecosystems.
The newest member of the Fairmont family is The Fairmont Orchid, Hawaii (formerly the Orchid at Mauna Lani). Situated on 32 beachfront acres along the semi-tropical Kohala Coast, the property is located on the Northwestern shore of the big island. With 539 guestrooms and suites, the resort offers a full-service spa and fitness center, three restaurants, 10 tennis courts, and golf just minutes away. The Fairmont Orchid, Hawaii’s meeting facilities include 29,000 square feet of indoor and 76,000 square feet of outdoor function space, perfect for enjoying the year-round perfect weather. Other meeting options include an amphitheatre that is able to accommodate 160.
Also new to the company’s portfolio is The Fairmont Washington, DC (formerly the Monarch Hotel), which was rebranded in early December. The 415-room property, built in 1985, is located in Washington's West End on the edge of picturesque Georgetown and is considered one of the city’s premier luxury hotels. The Fairmont Washington, DC is close to the city’s finest museums, theaters (including the Kennedy Center), shopping and dining. The hotel has the amenities and services expected of a luxury property including extensive function space with 18 meeting rooms totaling more than 29,000 square feet. The property also offers a newly renovated Executive Forum. Multi-media presentations are made easy in this stunning 87-seat auditorium that features the best A/V systems, which are pre-programmed and digital, allowing presenters to take full control of their presentation’s audio, video and lighting effects. The Executive Forum is complete with ergonomically designed seating, mahogany workstations, individual data ports and electrical outlets, and adheres to the Americans with Disabilities Act guidelines, featuring data ports and independently controlled microphones.
· Just opened at The Fairmont Hamilton Princess is a new 1,000-square-foot executive style boardroom with large windows, allowing for natural light. The room has sandstone-colored walls, gold and blue-toned carpet, individual climate control, high-speed Internet access, electronic screens and projection. The new space can accommodate 28 people boardroom-style, with black leather swivel executive chairs, or up to 75 reception-style.
· Fairmont Le Château Montebello, in the Quebec province, will feature a new meeting/function room by January 2003. The 2,250-square-foot room will be called Heritage and is located next to the Curling house, a short walk from the hotel. The room will be equipped with audio-visual features. The new space complements the 17 meeting rooms and ballroom currently available.
The Fairmont New Orleans’ Grand Ballroom, one of the hotel's most popular sites for elegant weddings, receptions and meetings, has just been completely renovated with new wall coverings, carpeting and paintings. The 6,930-square-foot Grand Ballroom was part of the Grunewald Hotel Annex, which was built in 1908 adjoining the Grunewald Hotel, the original property on the current-day Fairmont site.
This fall, a $2 million dollar restoration program transformed the famed Imperial Room, Library Bar and the adjacent west lobby foyer of Toronto's Fairmont Royal York to each room's original splendor. Along with a refurbished Library Bar and its enhanced ventilation system is new carpeting, wall coverings, drapery and seating for the Imperial Room. A grand entrance to the Imperial Room emerged as a result of exposing its original domed ceilings, and the drop ceiling of the adjacent Royal Tea Room was removed making way for the room's new purpose as a pre-function area. Decorative columns were uncovered and marble tiling was expanded to complement the recently redesigned lobby. New washrooms also accompany the venue changes and two new elevators will result in greater wheelchair accessibility.
Montreal's Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth has recently completed the restoration of its Mansfield wing meeting rooms - part of the property’s 45,000-square-foot convention floor. Oversized windows in all rooms allow for natural lighting and contemporary decor features brushed stainless steel lighting fixtures and textured wallpaper and fabrics, in rich earth-tone colors. The room also offers high-speed Internet access.
The Fairmont Winnipeg's conference and banquet rooms, renovated earlier this year, provide the most meeting space of any downtown Winnipeg hotel - over 20,000 square feet of redesigned functional space with first class business facilities that can accommodate group events of up to 1,100 people.
In the planning stages is a $3 million, three-year program to renovate The Fairmont Pierre Marques and The Fairmont Acapulco Princess. The proposal includes the construction of a convention/business center and renovations to the golf course with the addition of a clubhouse.
