HONOLULU, OAHU, HAWAII - Outrigger Enterprises, Inc., today announced that it intends to enter into a franchise agreement with Marriott International, Inc. designed to give Outrigger's Wailea and Waikoloa Beach resort properties access to a global sales organization and 17 million members of the Marriott Rewards® program.
Tentatively scheduled for January 2003, the Outrigger Wailea Resort, located on Maui, will be known as the Wailea Marriott, an Outrigger Resort and the Outrigger Waikoloa Beach, located on the Big Island, will be known as the Waikoloa Beach Marriott, an Outrigger Resort.
Outrigger will continue to own and manage both properties and keep its name attached. All employees will continue to work for Outrigger Hotels & Resorts with no expected changes.
According to David Carey, president and CEO of Outrigger Enterprises, the association with Marriott is the latest strategic move designed to extend the reach of Outrigger management into new markets.
This franchise agreement allows us to introduce Outrigger's island hospitality to Marriott's customers, including Marriott Rewards® members and corporate and meeting customers, Carey said. At the same time, the hotels will continue to benefit from Outrigger's long-standing relationships with travel agents around the world who associate Outrigger with Hawaii and the Pacific.
The opportunity to bring together the Marriott brand with Outrigger Hotels & Resorts is exciting, said Stan Brown, vice president of Pacific Islands Area, Marriott International. Marriott's powerful brand and culture are similar to that of Outrigger which create a perfect partnership. The two properties at Waikoloa and Wailea add to our highly diverse and strategically located portfolio of Marriott and Renaissance hotels in Hawaii. Through the expected franchise agreement, Outrigger will have the resources of Marriott's worldwide name recognition to produce strong overall results.
The Outrigger Waikoloa Beach is a 545-room resort located on 15 oceanfront acres in the Waikoloa Resort Community on the Kohala Coast of Hawaii's Big Island. The Outrigger Wailea Resort is a 521-room resort on 22 oceanfront acres in the Wailea Resort Community on the south shore of Maui. Between 1998 and 1999 Outrigger acquired both properties, and then invested $50 million in renovations to create two of Hawaii's premiere full service resorts.
Outrigger Hotels & Resorts recently received approval to move forward on the Waikiki Beach Walk, a $300 million redevelopment plan for 7.7 acres in the Lewers Street area of Waikiki. The privately held company continues to expand its presence in Australia, New Zealand, Guam, Fiji, and the Pacific.
Outrigger Enterprises, Inc. is the largest independent and locally-controlled lodging company in Hawaii and one of the fastest-growing lodging companies in the Pacific. Outrigger Hotels & Resorts, a division of Outrigger Enterprises, Inc., operates two hotel brands - Outrigger Hotels & Resorts and OHANA Hotels & Resorts - as well as a portfolio of Outrigger Resort Condominiums, and it recently launched the Outrigger Resort Club in the timeshare segment.
