  • Four Points With “green” practices that complement its spectacular natural waterfront setting, the Four Points by Sheraton Punta Gorda Harborside has earned a coveted place in the Florida Green Lodging Program, a statewide initiative recognizing hotels that “conserve and protect Florida’s natural resources.”

“Our team is thrilled about our Florida Green Lodging Program designation, and our guests have been very enthusiastic about our sustainability efforts”

Four Points Punta Gorda Harborside is located on the edge of the Charlotte Harbor in beautiful Punta Gorda, whose newly revitalized downtown boasts unique shops and restaurants along cobblestone streets, with Gulf of Mexico beaches nearby.

“Our team is thrilled about our Florida Green Lodging Program designation, and our guests have been very enthusiastic about our sustainability efforts,” said Stephen Svecak, the property’s general manager. “When you’re lucky enough to be situated in the kind of beautiful setting we enjoy, it becomes even more apparent how important it is to reduce waste and conserve resources.”

The property is one of the first to unveil Four Points’ new “Getaway” theme, inspired by a breezy beach house or a family lake cottage. The “Getaway” boasts a color palette of watery blues and greens against a backdrop of fresh white with blonde oak paneling, reminiscent of a pier extending onto the water. A combination of sisal-inspired textures and bold nautical stripes provide a casual, relaxed and timeless environment.

“It is wonderful to see businesses implement green practices such as water conservation, recycling and energy reduction because they are not only good for business, they are good for Florida’s environment,” said DEP Sustainable Initiatives Director Deas Bohn.

To earn a Florida Green Lodging designation, hotels conduct a thorough property assessment and implement environmental practices in six areas of sustainable operations: Communication and Education (Customers, Employees, Public); Waste Reduction, Reuse and Recycling; Water Conservation; Energy Efficiency; Indoor Air Quality; and Transportation.

At Four Points Punta Gorda, green practices have included water conservation measures through low-flow plumbing fixtures, a linen reuse program, and energy efficiency achieved by installing ENERGY STAR® appliances and programmable thermostats. The property has also met waste reduction criteria by recycling, purchasing items in bulk, purchasing recycled materials and by recycling ink and toner cartridges. For a healthier environment inside and outside the hotel, Four Points Punta Gorda has also incorporated green cleaners and high efficiency air filters.
