HSMAI Honors Vicki Freed, Carnival Cruise Lines With Award For Top Sales Achievement |
|
MCLEAN, VA (Jan. 6, 2003) -- The Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International (HSMAI) has teamed up with Sales & Marketing Management (SMM) magazine to honor Vicki Freed, senior vice president of sales & marketing, Carnival Cruise Lines, with the “HSMAI Award For Top Sales Achievement.” |
The Award For Top Sales Achievement is one of 15 National Sales & Marketing Awards sponsored by The Forum Corporation in conjunction with SMM, which recognize top performers in the sales and marketing fields who go above and
beyond the call of duty and set examples for their industries.
Recipients of the awards are those individuals or teams that either invented a clever, new approach to conducting business or designed a unique and innovative solution to several different business problems.
Freed was honored with this prestigious award due to her success in returning cruise reservation levels back to normal within seven weeks of the events of Sept. 11, 2001.
“HSMAI is proud to present Vicki Freed with this honor. Her determination has shown that the travel industry can overcome the challenges it has faced over the last year,” said Robert A. Gilbert, CHME, CHA, president and CEO of HSMAI.
In her efforts to restore booking volume, Freed had travel agents’ commission rates raised to 20 percent for a one-month period. In addition to the rate increase, she arranged to donate $50 from the sale of each cruise to the American Red Cross -
a campaign that ultimately raised $1.5 million for the organization.
Freed also implemented a new project with Carnival-branded vacation stores allowing consumers to book cruises on-site. This creative marketing effort proved popular at the four sites located throughout Chicago, Florida and Texas shopping malls.
In addition to creating new sales and marketing strategies, Freed used the Internet to communicate information and news to both the consumers and travel agents including the security precautions the cruise line was taking post Sept. 11.
