  • LRA Worldwide So how are our reputations faring with two thirds of the year almost gone?

Without appearing sexist and with the summer vacation period almost concluding, might I ask - has Hospitality yet learned the secret to a memorable Family Vacation Experience?  It has always been right in front of you – take care of Mom and everything else is a piece of cake!

The greatest influence on where the vacationing family will stay, dine, recreate and shop is the Mother.  And, she arrives at your Destination exhausted – a frantic family pace for fifty or so weeks – all encompassing fulfilling and agonizing at the same time.  However, she has willed that the vacation be a success – husbands to relax and reconnect with the offspring; the children to be entertained; and Mom, she is thrilled to be elsewhere where others take care of the mundane.

This transitory other world experience does not mean she does not have expectations.  Standards of Excellence (much like hers) must be evident.  Having maintained her own home, she fully anticipates a level of cleanliness, safety, facility upkeep and creature comforts.  And, those relationship life lessons she has shared with her family are expected with the service – attitude, courtesy, attentiveness, honesty and performance.  You simply cannot slack off, for Mom’s watchful eye will always catch you.

Lastly, we should have learned that Mothers need special attention on vacation.  They may not tell you this, for many are martyrs, but, to seal the memorable experience deal, they need to be spoiled, pampered, catered, comforted and pleasured.  Detail and the small touches are important – a flower on the pillow, special room/bathroom amenities, personalized services at your Spa, special invitations to your and neighboring Retail Stores.

The key is to recognize and compliment her influence, which is mighty.  She, with family in tow, will return next summer.
