Gemstone Resorts Opens First Hotel In Beverly Hills In A Decade |
|
Luxury Mosaic Hotel Second Property Opened by Operator in Last Two Months |
BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. & PARK CITY, Utah--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 3, 2003--Gemstone Resorts, a hotel company that specializes in managing and asset managing complex and unique hotels and resorts, today announced that it has opened the first new full-service hotel in Beverly Hills in approximately a decade--the 49-room luxury Mosaic Hotel Beverly Hills.
It is Gemstone's 10th property management assignment in the past 12 months and reflects a growing trend among owners of unique urban and resort hotels to select operators and asset managers that specialize in that lodging sector.
"The Mosaic is the second new property we have opened in the past month," said Mark van Hartesvelt, Gemstone principal. "Although the industry is in a difficult operating environment, a well-conceived, well-located hotel with the right management expertise can still be highly successful."
Located at 125 South Spaulding Drive on the site of the former Beverly Hills Inn, The Mosaic Hotel is steps away from Rodeo Drive. The property is designed and operated to provide a blend of luxury and intimacy not available at the much larger hotels typically found in Beverly Hills.
"The Mosaic Hotel, while cutting edge, is not a `trendy hotel' that will be out of style within several years," said Thomas Prins, Gemstone principal. "Our strategy was to develop a Gemstone Resorts concept that could be easily distinguished and difficult to duplicate by the hotel's competitive set."
Prins noted that in creating a position for the Mosaic, Gemstone focused on the property's setting, service and providing a better luxury value. "Our strategy takes advantage of the hotel's smaller size, which is embodied in the design and flow of the hotel and restaurant and enables us to provide more personal attention to each guest."
Working closely with hospitality design firm Duncan & Miller, Gemstone created an atmosphere focusing on elegance and comfort. The centerpiece is Mo's, a restaurant/bar in a setting built around the hotel's garden pool. The menu offers foods from around the world in the Spanish tapas tradition, featuring a wide variety of foods from "small bites," to shared platters. Mo's signature drink is a "saketini," a unique martini made with sake and Mosaic Punch, a blend of fresh juices infused with rare nutmeg syrup and aged Caribbean rum.
Headquartered in Park City, Utah, Gemstone is a full-service operating and asset management company that specializes in luxury and upscale hotels and complex resorts that encompass a variety of components such as hotels, restaurants, retail, and resort amenities, including beach, golf or skiing, time-share and other hospitality-related activities.
