Energy savings averaging 30-35% at 3 Universal Orlando resorts prompt the company to install Onity EMS solutions a 4th time; Loews New Orleans Hotel, opening fall 2003, next in line
ATLANTA / MIAMI — MARCH 31, 2003 — Loews Hotels, the founding division of the Loews Corporation, and an owner/operator of 17 prestigious properties throughout the U.S. and Canada, for the fourth time has installed Energy Management Systems manufactured by Onity/Senercomm — most recently at the 790-room Loews Miami Beach Hotel — and the company plans to do so again at the 285-room Loews New Orleans Hotel before year’s end.
The proven ROI of Onity’s Senercomm EMS solutions and the Atlanta-based company’s unwavering commitment to providing global service and support prompted the Loews Miami Beach Hotel to purchase Onity’s
SensorStat® DDC II (Direct Digital Control) EMS solution for its 790 guestrooms, said Patrick Long, the property’s Director of Engineering.
“For the past few years, Loews Hotels has reaped significant ROI — guestroom energy savings averaging
30 to 35 percent — at its three Universal Orlando properties equipped with Onity/Senercomm EMS solutions,” Long said. “For us, it was very easy to follow in their footsteps and install the SensorStat DDC II because our company has realized the returns that Onity’s proven products and professional people consistently deliver.”
Onity’s EMS solutions incorporate infrared motion-based sensors that detect guests’ presence in guestrooms. If the sensors do not detect guests‘ presence, then the air conditioning/heating systems, (which consume
85 percent of the energy in hotel guestrooms), automatically default to preset economical temperature setbacks.
Motion-based programmable temperature setbacks allow for optimal guestroom energy savings, with minimal exposure to room temperature-related guest complaints.
“The SensorStat DDC II is a digital thermostat with occupancy-based temperature setbacks proven to deliver a payback in 24 to 36 months, with ROI often amounting to tens of thousands of dollars in annual savings added directly to the property’s bottom line for the life of the system,” said Laura R. Acuña, Onity North America Marketing Director.
Onity/Senercomm EMS solutions allow managers the option of on-line monitoring of guestroom air-conditioning/heating systems, as well as the issuance of management reports and the incorporation of preventive security measures and maintenance alarms. Onity/Senercomm EMS solutions are in use in hundreds of thousands of guestrooms around the globe, providing substantial and sustained bottom-line benefits to properties of all sizes and types.
“We anticipate a payback in about 21 months, and annual savings of $160,000+ for 15 years or longer,” Long said. “Just as important as the proven ROI of these EMS solutions, Loews Hotels has found out firsthand that Onity is a market leader uniquely positioned to provide around-the-clock, around-the-globe professional service and support for the full gamut of electronic solutions — from guestroom EMS and e-locks and safes, to CCTVs.
“Onity is a rare breed: A hospitality technology partner with products that pay for themselves many times over, and people who truly care about all of our needs and who stay focused on how they can best serve us in both the near and long term,” he said. “For instance, in our case, we’ve been running at or near 100-percent occupancy for a few months, and Onity has worked closely with us to ensure that we could install its EMS solutions as quickly as possible and reap energy savings sooner than later — without disrupting guests, or taking rooms out of inventory and profits out of pockets. I can’t say enough about Onity’s fine people and proven products.”
