TravelClick Academies Show 2011 Has Been a Healthy Year for European Hoteliers

  • TravelClick TravelClick, a leading provider of revenue generating solutions for hoteliers worldwide, has completed its road trip of European hotelier Academies – where hoteliers are invited to improve their knowledge to help them further generate sales. Hotel market trends revealed at the sessions indicated that occupancy, room rates and RevPAR are all up for European hoteliers on 2010. Occupancy for 2011 is up 4.1%, average daily rate (ADR) is up 4.3% and RevPAR is up 8.6%.

    The TravelClick Academy sessions took place across Athens, Vienna, Munich and Berlin, with special guest speakers Michael Kobler, head of e-commerce at Austrian Airlines and Arne Erichsen, director of market management, Germany at Expedia. The sessions shared local GDS performance and showed UK hotels topping the list of European countries for bookings in an analysis by TravelClick eMonitor with $782m in 2010 rising to $974m in 2011. 

    The analysis also demonstrated that small/medium chains in Europe showed the greatest growth with room nights up by 9.5% and ADR up 18.8% year-over-year. Although all segments across the continent have had a healthy year, big brands’ room nights are up 9.1% with ADR up 16.7%, and independents are showing an 8.2% rise in room nights and 18.7% rise in ADR year-over-year. 

    A closer look at the European breakdown shows Vienna had the highest rise in both occupancy (up 16.4%) and RevPAR (up 32.9%) year-on-year. Zurich shows the highest rise in ADR (up 18.3%). London’s occupancy grew just 0.5% with rises in ADR of 10% and RevPAR of 10.5%.
