  • Hotwire Honolulu Boasts Steepest Car Rental Rate Decreases for Fourth Month in a Row as Arizona Becomes a Hot Market for Air and Hotel Deals

Hotwire.com®, a leading discount travel site, released the November 2011 Hotwire® Travel Savings Indicator, which features the top five cities in North America where hotel, air and car rental rates have dropped the most. Using extensive pricing research to cover the three most popular travel products, the report helps guide travelers to the best destinations to maximize their travel dollars each month.

"We're seeing several popular big cities across North America drop prices this month as travel demand for these markets is shaping up to be softer this year versus last year," said Clem Bason, president of the Hotwire Group. "In particular, Hawaii continues to offer great rates for travelers, and cities in Tennessee and Arizona are also becoming hot deal markets. November is shaping up to be a great month for those looking to get away before 2011 comes to an end."

    Hotel Price Drops

Atlantic City, New Jersey is the only city with a double digit decrease, claiming the number one spot with a 13 percent dip in prices overall. Higher-end hotels in Atlantic City are seeing lower demand versus last year and are dropping rates, which causes a ripple affect across all star levels. We expect this trend to last through February. Tucson, Arizona makes the first of its two appearances on this month's indicator making it our Hot Deal market for November, with an eight percent decrease in the hotel market. Weak group demand has led to low occupancy levels overall and properties are decreasing prices for last-minute bookings.

Vancouver, British Columbia brings Canada onto the list with a seven percent decrease, due to their off-season being slower than expected. With the Canadian dollar being on par to the United States dollar and high gas prices in the surrounding areas, rates are being driven down and deals are expected to continue until the Canadian Football League's Grey Cup at the end of the month.

Providence, Rhode Island and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma both make the list this month with a six percent decrease. Recent storms and the NBA lockout are leaving hotels in Oklahoma City with more need, as home games aren't able to drive the amount of tourist traffic that typically comes during this time of the year.

When compared to the same time last year, the top five hotel price reductions for November 2011 include:

    Air Price Drops

Showing up in first place for the second month in a row, Knoxville, Tennessee is a great option for regional travelers with a nine percent decrease. Knoxville's main airport primarily hosts regional jets so any volume fluctuation can produce significant pricing drops. Columbia, South Carolina takes second place with a seven percent decrease, and Oakland, California follows with a three percent drop. This is welcomed news for Bay Area travelers because Oakland is a great alternative for those wanting to fly into San Francisco over the Thanksgiving holiday. Rounding out the top five is our Hot Deal market, Tucson, Arizona.

    Car Rental Price Drops

Car rates in general have been lower throughout 2011 due to excess inventory, and as car rental agencies compete for renters, rates tend to fall across the board. Hawaii in particular continues to see abnormally low rates due to a lack of demand as compared to the cars available; Honolulu has been the number one city for steepest price decreases in car rates since August. All five destinations on this month's list are seeing price drops over 40 percent, offering rates lower than $30 per day.
