  • Hotwire Ten Most Popular Holiday Destinations for Canadian Travellers

Hotwire.com announced the top ten destinations where Canadians are vacationing this holiday season. Big cities both domestic and international dial up the winter fun while warm weather destinations abroad help round out the most popular spots.

Montreal, New York City and Toronto comprise the top three on the list, and all are prime destinations for those located on the Canadian/United States border. Due to fluctuating exchange rates throughout the year, prices in many border cities have been competitive as each battle for travellers – the holiday season is no exception. That means planning a big city getaway this season can equate to big savings. Many of the remaining locales on the list, including Orlando, Fort Lauderdale and Honolulu, not only boast fantastic deals this season, but also warm weather and sunny skies for those looking to hang up their heavy coats and thaw frostbitten toes.

"We’re seeing folks becoming more open to the idea of spending the holidays in popular leisure destinations both close to home and internationally" said Clem Bason, president of the Hotwire Group. "The favourable exchange rate this year and the deep discounts found on Hotwire.com are making it easy for travellers to stretch their holiday travel budget and enjoy the season’s festivities with family both near and far.”

The 10 most popular holiday destinations for Canadian travellers by bookings and average nightly hotel prices for each are as follows:
