IH&RA and AMFORHT, the World Association for Hospitality and Tourism Education and Training, Join Forces |
|
Paris, 10 June 2003...Two international organizations dedicated to promoting the hospitality industry and preparing for its future have recently joined forces. On 2 June, IH&RA, the International Hotel & Restaurant Association, represented by its CEO Alain-Philippe Feutré, and AMFORHT, the World Association for Hospitality and Tourism Education and Training, represented by its President, Mr. Jean-Michel Hoerner, signed an official Memorandum of Understanding at the Institut Vatel in Paris. |
This Memorandum of Understanding launches the IH&RA "Educational Platform" bringing together international organizations, universities and institutes dedicated to the promotion and development of education and training in hospitality and tourism.
IH&RA has long contended, via its official industry position on Human Resources and Labour Issues, that the needs of the hospitality industry have not been sufficiently met by providers of education and training. Through this new partnership, both IH&RA and AMFORHT have reaffirmed their commitment to developing education and training opportunities to increase the number of semi-skilled, skilled and qualified workers available to the hotel and restaurant industry.
Thanks to this partnership, IH&RA members - national hotel and restaurant associations in some 100 countries and international and national hotel and restaurant chains representing some 50 brands - will also benefit from the educational and training expertise, contacts, research material and studies offered by the members of AMFORHT.
IH&RA and AMFORHT will also collaborate on upcoming Conferences, Forums, and will study the possibility of working jointly on studies and publications to support the development of the hospitality industry worldwide.
IH&RA is currently in negotiations to sign a similar Memorandum of Understanding with CHRIE,the International Council on Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Education.
IH&RA and AMFORHT: Complementary Missions -
The mission of the IH&RA is to represent, protect, promote and inform the hospitality industry worldwide to enable its members - national hotel and restaurant associations around the world and international and national hotel and restaurant chains - to achieve their business objectives. The mission of AMFORHT is to study and promote, internationally, the development of education and training in the professions related to hospitality and tourism in order to permanently improve the relation "Employment - Training."
One of AMFORHT's primary objectives is to bring together educators, hospitality and tourism professionals, consultants, researchers, schools (government and private), institutes and the universities of all countries to exchange ideas and to encourage cooperation and partnership. AMFORHT also aims to organize with the help of industry and international bodies such as IH&RA, discussions seminars, conferences and forums on subjects or themes which can be technical, topical or focused on innovation or research. Finally, AMFORHT aims to carry on the fight for professional education at all levels, including the due recognition of Hospitality and Tourism Studies in universities, and of Tourism Science as one of the Social Sciences.
