  • MICROS Systems MICROS to Link POS Systems in 1,200-Room Complex With 300,000 Sq. Ft. of Casinos

COLUMBIA, Md., July 22 Mohegan Sun, Connecticut's spectacular Mohegan tribe-owned casino and hotel complex and one of North America's largest entertainment destinations, strengthened its longtime relationship with MICROS Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: MCRS), the global leader in hospitality management technology, by upgrading to the MICROS 9700 hospitality management system (HMS). MICROS will advance Mohegan Sun's growth strategy by providing the flexibility to link many different point-of-sale
(POS) systems throughout the casino/resort, permitting better management of resources and easier systems integration.
MICROS has helped Mohegan Sun develop and implement an initiative enabling tenants that lease retail and food and beverage space to provide better service to all guests of the casino/resort. The initiative involves deploying RPOS, a software integration package that allows tenant outlets to accept property charges, such as room or member charges, comps, and coupons. Now, MICROS can link all leased food and beverage and other retail transactions with the gaming system, comp system and property management system for more efficient management and to provide a truly integrated guest experience.
The Mohegan Sun uses more than 250 MICROS workstations in operating its 300,000 square feet of casinos, including the planetarium-like The Casino of the Sky, 29 dining environments, retail outlets, convention services, bars, room service, health clubs, spas, banquets, arena, and other entertainment venues.

Upgrading adds functionally with streamlined implementation
By upgrading to the 9700, MICROS's point-of-sale technology specifically designed for large entertainment venues, Mohegan Sun protected its original investment in two ways, explained Jenny Kurdle, Vice President of Leisure and Entertainment for MICROS. "First, the resort leveraged its existing hardware, saving the cost of replacing hardware that was still in perfect operational condition. And second, it needed fewer technology resources because the 9700
Windows(R) platform is simpler to integrate into existing systems."
"We upgraded with a proven leader, to add functionality without disrupting any service in our restaurants, retail, or entertainment outlets," noted Dan Garrow, Senior Vice President of Information for Mohegan Sun. "With MICROS, we could transition from the UNIX-based 8700 to the Windows(R)-based 9700 HMS without staff on the front lines noticing. And because the Windows(R) 2000 platform was compatible throughout, integration was easier."
"We are enthusiastic about helping Mohegan Sun achieve its business objectives and increase guest satisfaction at the same time," noted Ms. Kurdle. "And we look forward to growing with Mohegan Sun and continuing to service its technology needs."
