The American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute (EI) has promoted Dennie Matthews to Chief Managing Officer for its India operations, following the retirement of EI vice president K.V. Simon in June.
Mr. Matthews has worked as part of EI's Mumbai office since June 2004, when he came on board as manager, accounting and administration. He was promoted to director operations and country manager in May 2008, working closely with Mr. Simon to promote the EI brand to Indian hospitality schools and industry organizations.
Prior to joining EI, Mr. Matthews worked for three years with a chartered accountant firm, Sharp and Tannan, in Mumbai. He holds a bachelor's and a master's in commerce from the University of Pune.
As chief managing officer, Mr. Matthews is overseeing a business reorganization for EI's India operations. "We are working on getting more engaged with customers and enhancing brand awareness, working not only with the hospitality institutes and the industry, but expanding to other allied service-based industries where our programs are relevant," he explained. "I trust that my many years of work experience in this domain will help EI continue to spearhead in innovation, reach, relevance, and acceptability in India."
Established in 1953 as a nonprofit educational foundation of the American Hotel & Lodging Association, the Educational Institute's mission is to continue being the preferred provider to the lodging industry, hospitality schools, and related hospitality industries by developing and providing quality resources to train, educate, and certify hospitality professionals worldwide.
