  • Millennium Hotels LOS ANGELES, CA - October 1, 2003 - The Millennium Biltmore Hotel, Los Angeles reaches a very special milestone this year with the celebration of its 80th birthday.

    Since 1923, this historic landmark has been a favorite amongst celebrities and dignitaries, and witnessed many historical events. The Biltmore's lobby was a social center in the '30's with glittering tea dances and in 1960 it was President John F. Kennedy's Democratic Party headquarters. Its magnificent ballrooms were painted by famed artist Giovanni Smeraldi of Vatican fame. The charm and elegance of the Millennium Biltmore has stood the test of time and in honor of its 80th birthday, the hotel has created exciting events to celebrate this occasion.

    · Smeraldi's Restaurant - Smeraldi's will offer a special
    3-course opening gala menu circa 1923 for the month of October, priced at $19.23 per person plus tax. This 3-course special includes a choice of starter and entrée and dessert to be served at lunch and dinner. The menu features dishes such as the Cassolette of Crab Flakes, Epicurrienne, Noisette of Spring Lamb, Favorite with asparagus tips, Maltaise and Peach Hilda. Birthday cakes will also be served at lunchtime from October 2 - October 9, 2003.     · Gallery Bar - Named by Los Angeles Downtown News as 2003's
    "Best First Date Location" and having the "Best Bartender" (Greg Guzelian), the Gallery Bar brings its own glitter to the Biltmore's 80th birthday by unveiling its "1920's Drinks Menu." This special drinks menu features favorites such as the Biltmore Manhattan, Biltmore Old-Fashioned, Biltmore Side Car and Black Widow, all available at $8 for the month of October. The Gallery Bar is also offering its signature Black Dahlia drink named after aspiring actress Elizabeth Short who disappeared after being last seen by a doorman at the Biltmore in 1947.

    · Entertainment at the Gallery Bar - The Millennium Biltmore
    is proud to announce the return of classic romantic jazz to its intimate Gallery Bar, located just off the main lobby of the famed landmark hotel. Nationally renowned jazz bands scheduled to perform at the Gallery Bar under the auspices of musical director Judy Chamberlain include pianist, Pete Jolly, guitarists Al Viola, Sam Most, Chuck Berghofer, Jennifer Leitham, Bob Sheppard, Larry Goldings, Jo LaBarbera, Steve Wilkerson and many others. Downtown jazz At the Biltmore kicks off on Thursday, October 9, 2003 with live jazz in the Gallery Bar on Thursday and Saturday nights.     · Historical Corridor - Guests and visitors will be treated to
    a little historical tour on the Biltmore's past via its newly opened "Historical Corridor." The corridor located off the main lobby showcases photos from the past including photos of Academy Award dinners held in the Biltmore's ballrooms where famous stars like Shirley Temple and Jimmy Stewart can be seen. Memorabilia will also be on display in the Cognac Room.

    · Daily High Tea - Echoes of the 1930's returns to the
    Rendezvous Court with an 80th Anniversary afternoon tea special served daily from 2 pm - 5 pm for $19.23 for the month of October. High tea is also served daily at the Rendezvous court from 2pm - 5 pm and reservations can be made by calling 213-624-1562.
